Arthur Monroe Kershner, 91, of Burlington, died Sunday, March 26, 2023, at the Southeast Iowa Regional Hospice House in West Burlington.
Born November 30, 1931, in Lomax, IL, he was the son of Jule and Leona Smith Kershner. In 1952, he married Loretta Maejean Wagner. She later passed in 1962. On December 21, 1963, he married Carol Ann Baker in Burlington. On February 16, 2018, she passed away.
He received his GED through the Army in 1951. He was a U.S. Army Veteran, serving during the Korean War from 1949 until 1952 as an Operating Engineer in a combat batallion.
Arthur was an Iron worker in the Local 577 for 45 years.
He was a member of Burlington First Assembly of God. He loved the outdoors, fishing, hunting, mushroom hunting, shooting his compound bow and later, his crossbow. Arthur traveled to Canada, Colorado, Wyoming, Florida, Hawaii and many other states. Arthur loved raising sporting dogs and teaching the dogs obedience classes with his wife, Carol. He enjoyed hobby farming, gardening and his horses. He also operated Art's Welding and Repair for many years.
Survivors include six sons, Steven Kershner of Burlington, Chuck (Sue) Kershner of West Burlington, Les (Angie) Kershner of Burlington, Randy (Joni Wykert) Kershner of Mediapolis, Wayne (Teesa) Kershner of Burlington, and Gerald (Becky) Kershner of Danville; two daughters, Lisa (Bob) Lies of KeyLargo, FL and Shannon (Shane) Mostashiry of Parker, CO; 11 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; brother, Paul (Gloria) Kershner of Lomax, IL; sister, Kellie Mumme of Mansfield, TX; sister-in-law, Bonnie Kershner of West Burlington; and several nieces and nephews.
Besides his wives, he was preceded in death by his parents, daughter, Therisa Ann Kershner, sister, Helen Bunch, brother Roy Kershner, son-in-law, Shane Mostashiry, two brother-in-laws, Richard Mumme and Robert Bunch and one grandson, Jacob Kershner.
Visitation will be from noon until 5:00 PM with the family to receive friends from 3:00 PM until 5:00 PM Sunday, April 2, 2023 at Prugh Funeral Service, 3940 Division Street.
The funeral service for Mr. Kershner will be 10:00 AM Monday, April 3, 2023, at Burlington Assembly of God with Reverend Don Crawford officiating. Full military honors will be rendered by the Burlington Area Veterans Honor Guard. Burial will be in Burlington Memorial Park Cemetery. A time of food and fellowship will be held at Burlington Assembly of God following the burial.
Memorials have been established for the Shriners Children's Hospital and Southeast Iowa Regional Hospice.
