Betty Joyce Alves

Betty Joyce Alves, 80, of Burlington, died Monday, March 8, 2021.

Born January 1, 1941, in Ottumwa, IA, she was the daughter of Kenneth Virgil and Ruby Mildred Rhodes. She married Raymond Alves in Reno, Nevada on May 25, 1993.

Betty was a very artistic and creative person, and this was best exemplified in her landscaping and crafting abilities. She loved traveling and possessed a strong desire to go new places. She liked to listen to country music. She was the most giving and caring person to everyone she knew.

Survivors include one daughter, Christina Joy Varnold; one brother, Kenneth (Wanda) Rhodes; two sisters, Ruby (Sam) Kraus and Bev (Rod) Bryan; and four grandchildren: Angela, Craig, Brandy and Liam; and her favorite companion, Billy Cat.

She was preceded in death by her first husband, Al Varnold, second husband, Roy Alves and one sister, Cheryl Ann Symmonds. 

Family will receive friends from 12:00 noon until the time of service at 1:00 PM Monday, March 15, 2021 at Prugh~Thielen Funeral Home. Burial will be held at a later date in California next to her husband.
