Betty Jane Colburn

Betty J. Colburn, 96, of Burlington, died Sunday, February 1, 2026, at the Southeast Iowa Regional Medical Center in West Burlington.

Born August 29, 1929, in Roxborough, PA, she was the daughter of John and Alice (Spitler) Candelet. On July 19, 1947, she married Newton Colburn.

Betty was employed by National Research Bureau for sixteen and half years and St. Paul Insurance in Corpus Christi, Texas, for six years.

She was a member of Christ Episcopal Church and a member of the Altar Guild and ECW.

Betty enjoyed playing bridge, dancing and water skiing with family, friends and with the Burlington Ski Kats.  She skied until she was 80 years old.

Survivors include children, Newton (Vicki) Colburn III, Gary (Valerie) Colburn, and Stephen Colburn; grandchildren, Angela, John, Becca, Chelsea, Robert; seven great-grandchildren and one on the way; and daughter-in-law, Catherine Colburn.

Besides her husband, Newton, she was preceded in death by her parents; and siblings, Alice and John.

Cremation has been entrusted to the care of Prugh Crematory.

The memorial service for Mrs. Colburn will be 1:00 PM Saturday, February 7, 2026, at Christ Episcopal Church, 623 N 5th St., Burlington, with Father Carl Mann officiating.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to Christ Episcopal Church.
