Betty Jean Kramer Hootman, 88, of Burlington, died at 4:30 PM Friday, May 14, 2021, at the Great River Klein Center in West Burlington.
Born May 29, 1932, on her family's farm in Oakville, Iowa, she was the daughter of William John and Lena Maude Rice Kramer. On March 25, 1956, she married Ralph David Hootman in Canton, Missouri. He died May 3, 2010.
Betty Jean wore many hats over the years. She worked a paper route, sold Avon Cosmetics, and worked for McCassen & Robbins. But most importantly she was a mother, grandmother, great grandmother and great great grandmother.
She was a member of the Grace United Methodist Church where she taught Sunday School, Bible School, and was very active in the church. She helped with summer camp for the handicapped, enjoyed visiting at residence at Klein's, Girl Scouts, and the PTA. She collected beanie babies, clowns, and Santa Clause Figures and loved Christmas. She loved Elvis, playing bingo, board and card games and taking trips. Most of all she loved her family and being with them.
Survivors include her children, Cherylann (Servando) Gonzalez of Burlington, Michael (Krissi) Huthmann of Limestone, TN, Colette (Juan) Gonzalez of Burlington, Linda (Keith) Turrill of Burlington, Tracey (Cliff) Larsen of Burlington, Vanessa Bruss of Stockport, IA, Jason Hootman of Stockport; 18 grandchildren; 33 great-grandchildren; three step-children, James (Karen) Hootman of Blue Springs, MO, Gloria Butrum of Saint Joseph, MO, and Billy (Juanita) Hootman of Raytown, MO; seven step grandchildren; 21 step great-grandchildren; 11 step great-great grandchildren; one sister, Priscilla Artz of Elk Grove Village, IL; one brother, Wayne (Jackie) Kramer of Olathe, KS; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Besides her husband she was preceded in death by her parents, one son, Craig, one daughter, Jacquelyn, one grandchild, Servando Jr., one step grandchild, Ryan, two brothers, Ed & Bob, and one infant brother, William and, son-in-law, Neil Bruss, and one daughter-in-law, Patty Jurisch..
The family to receive friends from 11:00 AM until 1:00 PM, Saturday, May 22, 2021 at Prugh-Thielen Funeral Home.
The funeral service for Mrs. Hootman will be 1:00 PM Saturday, May 22, 2021, at Prugh~Thielen Funeral Home with Reverend Tammi Wirt officiating. Burial will be in Kossuth Cemetery.
A celebration of Life will be held from 2:00 PM until 7:00PM on Saturday, May 29, 2021 at Perkins Park Room #4.
