October 31, 1975 ~ January 28, 2024 (age 48) 48 Years Old
William Lee Gilpin, 48, of West Burlington, died Sunday, January 28, 2024, at the Southeast Iowa Regional Medical Center in West Burlington.
Born October 31, 1975, in Keokuk, IA, he was the son of Charles Lee and Quinda Adams Gilpin. On June 26, 1999, he married Christina Lynn Derby in Burlington, IA.
He was dual enrolled at Burlington High School and Burlington Christian School and graduated from Burlington Christian School.
Bill worked for the City of Burlington taking care of the Memorial Auditorium and Port of Burlington for many years. After that he started his own business, Bill Gilpin Construction and installed fences and decks.
Bill was a member of New Life Family Church. He was also a certified minister with the Assemblies of God. Bill received the Gold Medal of Achievement through the AG Royal Rangers program. Bill was very involved in Boy Scouts and helped his sons with many projects. He enjoyed watching sports and was a fan of the Iowa Hawkeyes, St. Louis Cardinals and the Dallas Cowboys. He enjoyed the outdoors and was an avid hunter when he was able. He will be remembered as a people person, telling jokes and always helping others. The most important thing in Bill's life was his family. He was very proud of his children and loved spending time with all of his family. He was also blessed with the opportunity to be a foster parent for many children.
Survivors include his wife, Christina Gilpin of West Burlington; four children, Clayton Gilpin, Brock Gilpin, Addison Gilpin and Diesel Gilpin all of West Burlington; his parents, Charles and Quinda Gilpin of Burlington; brother, Charles (Julie) Gilpin of West Burlington; sister-in-law, Melissa (Scott) Rood of Platteville, WI; three brothers-in-law, Marcques (Kaylyn) Derby of West Burlington, Andrew (Krystal) Derby of Dubuque, and William (Jessica) Derby of Raritan, IL; father-in-law, David (Patti) Derby of Dubuque; step-mother-in-law, Connie (Jim) Nisius of Raritan, IL, and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his grandparents and mother-in-law.
Visitation will be from noon until 7:00 PM with the family to receive friends from 5:00 PM until 7:00 PM Monday, February 5, 2024 at Prugh Funeral Service, 3940 Division Street.
The funeral service for Bill will be 10:30 AM Tuesday, February 6, 2024, at New Life Family Church with Pastor Richard Dutzer officiating. Burial will be in Aspen Grove Cemetery. A time of food and fellowship will be held at New Life Family Church following the burial.
