David Charles Bardy

David Charles Bardy , 83, of Burlington, died Monday, June 29, 2026, at the Harmony Cedar Rapids in Cedar Rapids.

Born October 15, 1942, in Evergreen Park, IL, he was the son of Charles and Virginia (Montgomery) Bardy. On September 23, 1972, he married Jule Ann Sitek in Superior, WI.

David attended Lyons Township High School before graduating.  He later joined the United States Army and served during the Vietnam conflict.  After returning home, David worked for the Burlington Northern Santa Fe railroad for 36 years.

David held a lifelong appreciation of trains and everything railroad related.  When he was younger he traveled and saw much of the United States via rail.  He enjoyed taking his children to various rail depots and historic rail lines to see the excursion trains.  His railroad knowledge was encyclopedic and his personal rail library rivaled several museums.

David also loved model trains.  Aside from having a very extensive collection, he was a 55 year member of the Twin City Model Railroad Museum.  He had many fond memories of his membership with the club and seeing the changes over time.  David was also a member of the Burlington Route Historical Society, and always looked forward to working as the train conductor at Old Threshers and during the Christmas celebrations.

David loved his family deeply.  He enjoyed the time he was able to spend with them going out to see the various trains and railroads.  He will be truly missed.

Survivors include his children, Randy of Burnsville, MN, and Wendy (Art) of North Liberty, IA; grandchildren, Evan, Christine (Nathaniel), and Eli; great granddaughter, Persephone; siblings, Daniel, Kevin, Brian, and Marcia.
Besides his wife, he was preceded in death by his parents; and siblings, Scott, Melissa, and Marianne.

The Memorial Mass of the Resurrection for David will be 11:00 am Friday, July 10, 2026, at SS. Mary and Patrick Catholic Church, West Burlington with Fr. Jake Greiner as the Celebrant.  Full military honors will be rendered by the Burlington Area Veterans Honor Guard.  A time of food and fellowship will be held at the SS. Mary and Patrick Church Hall.

Memorial contributions are suggested to either Divine Mercy Parish or the Twin City Model Railroad Museum.
