Dennis James Harwood, 70, of West Point, died Monday, May 17, 2021, at Fort Madison Community Hospital.
Born December 18, 1950, in Fairfield, IA, he was the son of Dale W. and Winetta Vorhies Harwood. On January 18, 2002, he married Vicki Lee (Evans) Carlson in Denmark, IA.
Dennis owned and operated car dealerships throughout his life. He had dealerships in the Fairfield and Mt. Pleasant areas as well as his most recent dealership, "Green Bay Motors", in Wever.
Dennis enjoyed racing stock cars, fishing, going to flea markets and craft shows, and duck and pheasant hunting. He enjoyed working on his small farm, where he raised Boer goats for show. He loved his dogs. Dennis' greatest enjoyment was spending time with his granddaughters who he adored. He was an all around good guy. He was a member of the ABGA (American Boer Goat Association) and Pheasants Forever.
Survivors include his wife, Vicki Lee Harwood of West Point, IA; step-daughter, Jenni (Terry) Hoenig of West Point, IA; two beloved granddaughters, Olivia and Chloe; two brothers, Donald Harwood and David Harwood both of Fairfield, IA; one sister, Sharon Vaughn of Vandalia, OH; and nieces and nephews, Wendy Harwood, Laury Scheidler, Daryn Harwood, Michelle Sperfslage, Charity Summerfield, Bonita Waters, Crystal Rich, Brian Johnson, Janelle Vargo, Brandon Vaughn, Jessie Harwood and Angela McClain.
He was preceded in death by his parents, brother, Larry Harwood, and sister, Shirley Harwood.
Family will receive friends from 1 PM until 3 PM on Friday, May 21, 2021 at Prugh~Thielen Funeral Home.
The funeral service for Mr. Harwood will be 3 PM Friday, May 21, 2021 at Prugh~Thielen Funeral Home with Dan Vaughn officiating. Full military honors will be rendered by the Burlington Area Veterans Honor Guard. A time of food and fellowship will be held in the community room at Prugh~Thielen Funeral Home following the service. Cremation will be entrusted to the care of Prugh Crematory following the service.
Burial will be held at a later date.
Memorials have been established for the VFW and Denmark Fire & Rescue.
