Dolores B. Meeker

Dolores B. Meeker, 90, of Burlington, died Friday, November 11, 2022, at the Southeast Iowa Regional Hospice House in West Burlington.

Born November 25, 1931, in Burlington, she was the daughter of Frederick A. and Mary Jane Kiersey Spanhut. On April 5, 1953, she married Marvin Chester Meeker in Burlington, IA.  He passed away on February 4, 2015.

She graduated from Burlington High School in 1949. In 1952, Dolores graduated from nursing school at Mercy Hospital in Burlington. Dolores worked for Mercy for a short time as a nurse prior to working with her husband on the farm.

She was a member of Kingston United Methodist Church. Dolores taught bible study at church and volunteered with the United Methodist Women. She enjoyed sewing, gardening, tending to her flowers and she admired and loved trees. She also enjoyed reading, studying scripture, and going for hikes in the hills. Dolores will be lovingly remembered as a very strong and determined woman with an incredible zest for life. She cherished spending time with her family and was very devoted to them.

Survivors include three daughters, Joyce Ann (David) Acheson of Ankeny, IA, Rhonda Kay (Bruce) Jensen of Ashville, NC and Diane Marie (Ricardo) Bimbela of Santa Barbara, CA,; five grandchildren, Daniel (Anna) Acheson, Aaron (Melissa) Acheson, Rachel (Jacob) Kellogg, Shonda Jensen and Eric (Cheyenne) Jensen; and one great-grandson, Ezra Acheson.

Besides her husband of 61 years, she was preceded in death by her parents, one son, Ronald Meeker, one brother, Fred Spanhut, and three sisters, Lillian Daniel, Adelia Combs and Avalin Grothe.

The family will receive friends from 10:00 AM until 11:00 AM Friday, November 18, 2022 Prugh Funeral Service, 3940 Division St.

The funeral service for Mrs. Meeker will be 11:00 AM Friday, November 18, 2022, at Prugh Funeral Service, 3940 Division St., with Pastor Earlene Lekwa officiating. Burial will be in Kossuth Cemetery. 

A memorial has been established for the Mediapolis Fire Department, Mediapolis Ambulance Service and the Southeast Iowa Regional Hospice House.
