Donald Dean Nafziger, 76, of Danville, Iowa passed away on Thursday, April 27, 2023 from cancer at the Southeast Iowa Regional Hospice House in West Burlington, Iowa.
He was born on May 18, 1946 to Menno and Anna Rich Nafziger. Don graduated from West Burlington High School in 1964. He served in the Air Force during the Vietnam War and was stationed in Taiwan and Okinawa as a firefighter. He earned the rank of Sgt. and was honorably discharged in 1969.
On August 26, 1972 he married Wanda Johnson in West Burlington. They were married for fifty years.
Don was employed at Security Lab, worked in construction, Burlington Trailways and Centre States.
Some of Don's favorite pastimes were fishing, deer hunting, bowling, yard selling, flea markets, gardening, and talking to people - he didn't know a stranger.
He is survived by his wife, Wanda; a sister, Janet (Richard) Hagemeier; a granddaughter, Leah Cupples of Newton, IA; a grandson, Jacob Mettler of New London; two great grandsons, Rylan Cupples and Ryder Hoffman of Newton, IA; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by a stepson, Brian Johnson, his brothers, Ed, Rex, Dwight, Arlie, Charles and Larry Nafziger, and sisters, Helen Riley, Betty Nafziger, Mildred Waterman, Joan Nafziger, Mary Wagner and Nancy Oster.
Prugh Funeral Service is in care of arrangements.
Cremation has been entrusted to the care of Prugh Crematory.
Family will receive friends from 1:00 PM until 2:00 PM, Thursday, May 4, 2023 at Prugh Funeral Service, 3940 Division Street.
The memorial service for Mr. Nafziger will be at 2:00 PM, Thursday, May 4, 2023 at Prugh Funeral Service, 3940 Division Street, with Pastor Dean Graber officiating. Full military honors will be rendered by the Burlington Area Veterans Honor Guard.
In lieu of flowers, a memorial has been established for the Danville Fire Dept.
