Donovan Clair "Don" Acord, 83, of Burlington, died at 1:47 PM Friday, March 24, 2017, at the Blair House Nursing & Rehabilitation Center in Burlington.

Born July 29, 1933, in Barnes City, he was the son of Wilbur Willard Acord and Margaret Marie Molyneux. He was raised by his mom and step-dad, Margaret and Harry Reuschenburg. On December 31, 1951, he married Marilyn Blessing. They later divorced.

When Don moved to Burlington, he worked for several businesses, Sears & Roebuk in receiving, Buhmeyer Auto Sales, and Strahn Bakery. He drove a bread truck, worked for 7-Up Bottling Company, R & S Bottling Co delivering out of town and in the Burlington area for 26 years. He then started his own Matco tool business he later sold and went to work for Montgomery Wards until they closed. He then retired.

He loved to socialize with people, drink coffee, gamble, attend auctions, watching old western movies, visit friends in Canada and California and visit his brother in Kansas. Don was known as the Pepsi man; he enjoyed playing Bingo, Card Shark and being outside. He played Santa for other families during the holidays. He was always very active his entire life until his stroke in 2011. He enjoyed joking with others and driving his wheel chair backwards. 

Survivors include three sons, David (Barbara) Acord of Mediapolis, Rick (Pam) Acord of Olathe, KS, and Marc (Mary) Acord of Overland Park; three daughters, Sharon (Jerry) Neff of Burlington, Nancy Steveson of Marshalltown, and Diane (Blake) Scott of Burlington; 13 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren and one more on the way; and one brother, Duane Acord of Shawnee, KS.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his step-father, Harry Reuschenburg; one brother; one grandson, Travis Neff; and one son-in-law, Orville Steveson.

Cremation has been entrusted to the care of Prugh~Thielen Crematory.

Visitation will be from 9:00 AM until 11:00 AM, Wednesday, March 29, 2017 where the family to receive friends at Prugh~Thielen Funeral Home.

The Graveside Committal Service for Mr. Acord will be 11:00 AM Wednesday, March 29, 2017, at Aspen Grove Cemetery with Reverend Ryan Cosgrove officiating. A time of food and fellowship will be held at Trinity Lutheran Church following the burial.

Memorials have been established for the Special Needs Foundation and Boy Scout Troop 15 (Hope Haven).
