Edward Charles Johnson

Ed Johnson, 77, of Burlington, died Wednesday, January 1, 2025, at the Parkview Care Center in Fairfield, IA.

Born May 29, 1947, he was the son of Charles and Ruth Splonskowski Johnson.

Ed graduated from Mount Pleasant High School.  He later went on to work dispatch with the West Burlington Police Department, working his way up to Police Chief.  Ed worked a number of jobs in his later life, including running a landscaping and snow removal business, owning a pawn shop, and working as a handy man.  He was truly a jack of all trades.

Ed was a wheeler and dealer.  He never could pass up a good bargain, and always enjoyed a nice trade.  His personal philosophy was "one man's junk is another man's treasure".  While he could be ornery, he had a huge heart and enjoyed helping people.  He liked riding his motorcycle and was a member of the Gold Wing club.  Ed liked going to the casino to try his luck.  He looked forward to meeting his buddies around town for a cup of coffee.  Later in life he appreciated going to church and found comfort in the services.

Ed's family include his daughters, Lisa (the late Sam) DeJaynes and Shannon (Chris) Hamilton; grandchildren, Samantha (Aaron) Magee, Trystan (Ellen) Sly, Katelyn Sly, Ashton Sly, Lane Hamilton, and Cole Hamilton; great-grandchildren, Conlee Magee and Tatum Magee; siblings, Fred Johnson, Bob Johnson, Mary (Curt) Wigger, Karen Johnson, Shirley (Faron) Springer; nephews, Scott Johnson, Corey (Joanna) Johnson, and Tyler Springer.

Sadly, Ed is preceded in death by his first wife, Carolyn; second wife, Susan; and parents, Charles and Ruth.

The funeral service for Mr. Johnson will be Monday, January 6th, 12:30 PM, at Prugh Funeral Service, 3940 Division Street, Burlington, IA with officiating Pastor Mick Hall officiating.  Burial will follow at White Oak Cemetery.
