Edwin L Bowman

Edwin L Bowman, 85, of Burlington, died at 3:34 PM on Sunday, May 1, 2022 at the Southeast Regional Hospice House.

Born on February 12, 1937, in Chicago Illinois, he was the son of Chester A. and Stella Marie Stimpson Bowman. On February 15, 1958 he married Betty L. Peterson in Reno, NV. They just celebrated their 64th wedding anniversary this past February.

He graduated from Stronghurst High School in 1953.

Edwin served in the military 1957 to 1959. Based at Ft. Collins, CO, then Ft. Ord CA, and later at Ft. Richardson, Alaska where he was a fireman. 

Ed worked at Murray Iron Works, IAAP as a guard then joined the fire department there. After that he became a member of Steamfitters, Plumbers Union Local 212 which changed to local 125. He attended Tulsa Welding school. He loved his job as a welder. 

Ed loved his family, dogs, wildlife and his hobby of raising some of the best Pensom Rollers around, never introducing other rollers into his flock. He belonged to the Pensom Roller Club, National Birmingham Roller Club, Central II Pigeon Club and SE Iowa Pigeon Club.

Survivors include his wife, Betty Bowman of Burlington; two daughters, Carole A. (Howard) Whitcomb, of Marshalltown, IA and Mary L. Wallace of Canton, Illinois; three granddaughters, Kyrie (Harsha) Edla of Bloomington, IL, Victoria (Zack Nemmers) Whitcomb of West Des Moines, IA, and Taylor Wallace of Canton, IL; one grandson, Nicholas (Riley) Whitcomb of Sioux City, IA; one great-grandson, Shivaji Edla of Bloomington, IL; three brothers, Steve Bowman of Carman, IL, Phillip Bowman of Dallas City, IL, and Chester E. Bowman of Dallas City, IL; one sister, Diane Bowman of Kirkwood, IL; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He is preceded in death by his parents and two sisters, Kate Cartwright and Linda Weaver.

Cremation has been entrusted to the Prugh Crematory.

A graveside service for Mr. Bowman will be 2:00 PM Saturday, May 7, 2022 at Burlington Memorial Park Cemetery.

Ed was so proud of his family and enjoyed the times we spent together. He will be sorely missed by all of us who loved him dearly.
