Frederick Rentzsch, 76, of Burlington, died at 1:51 PM Friday, May 14, 2021, at the Taylor House in Des Moines.
Born August 3, 1944, in Waterloo, IA, he was the son of Arthur A and Elizabeth M Melchior Rentzsch.
He was a U.S. Army Veteran, serving during the Vietnam War from 1968 until 1970.
He attended Loras College in Dubuque, IA for several years.
Fritz worked for F&M Bank and Trust for over 35 years before retirement, working his way up to Assistant Vice President.
He was an incredibly social and kind man, who loved making friends with anyone new. He was an active member of the church, spending many years volunteering for the St Vincent de Paul food pantry, and assisting with Divorced/Separated counseling. He was a very hardworking man, and spent many years with the Lion's club. He was a long time patron of the Sombrero, and later on Uncle Ronnie's where you could always catch him rooting for the Cubs, and enjoying an ice cold Old Style beer. In his free time, he was an avid golfer, and loved his golf leagues, and social golf nights.
Survivors include two daughters, Jennifer (Chad) Allsup of Grimes, IA, and Sarah (Matt) Hawkins of Waukee, IA; four grandkids, Jordyn and Jaycee Jamison, and Sage and Karson Hawkins; one brother, Art (Dorothy) Rentzsch of Columbus, OH; one sister, Margaret Ellen Harshaw of Philadelphia, PA; and several nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by one sister, Lydia Ann Rentzsch-Piehl, and his significant other, Glenda Hohenthaner.
Cremation has been entrusted to the care of Prugh Crematory.
The family will receive friends from 9:30 AM to 10:30 AM Friday, May 21, 2021 at Prugh~Thielen Funeral Home.
The Memorial Service for Mr. Rentzsch will be 10:30 AM Friday, May 21, 2021, at Prugh~Thielen Funeral Home with Very Rev. Father Marty Goetz as the Officiant. Burial will be in Sacred Heart Cemetery following the service. Full military honors will be rendered by the Burlington Area Veterans Honor Guard.
In lieu of flowers, a memorial has been established for the St Vincent de Paul food pantry.
