Gloria Jean Ells

Gloria Jean Ells, 76, of Burlington, died at 12:14 PM Wednesday, September 1, 2021, at the Southeast Iowa Regional Medical Center in West Burlington.

Born August 25, 1945, in Burlington, IA, she was the daughter of Roy "Booker" and Peggy M. Burrell Carnes. She married Mike Day and they had four children. They later divorced. She married Kenny Patterson and they later divorced. She married Doug Ells and they later divorced. 

She graduated from Media High School in Media, IL. 

She owned and operated a beauty salon in Stronghurst, IL and later at her home. She also worked for the Fort Madison Penitentiary as a guard and then for PreCast Concrete as a pilot car driver. 

Gloria enjoyed painting and making ceramics, crocheting, baking, cooking and playing Pogo computer games. She also enjoyed riding her Harley motorcycle and riding horses. Most of all, she liked to spend time with her grandchildren.

Survivors include her daughter, Tammy Day of West Burlington, IA; sons, Roy (Carla) Day of Blandinsville, IL, and Mike (Pam) Day of Media, IL; 11 grandchildren; 7 great grandchildren and one on the way.

She was preceded in death by her parents, one son, Mark Day and one grandson, Jimmy Smith. 

Cremation has been entrusted to the care of Prugh Crematory.

A Celebration of Life for Gloria will be held on Sunday, September 12, 2021 from 1:00 PM until 5:00 PM at the Burlington Gym. (129 S. 4th Street, Burlington, IA)

A memorial has been established.
