Harvey Lee Winstead, 84, of Burlington, died at 9:00 AM Sunday, May 29, 2022, at the ProMedica Skilled Nursing and Rehabilitation in Galesburg.
Born October 30, 1937, in Pontiac, IL, he was the son of Harley and Juanita Barnes Winstead. On September 17, 1983, he married Dixie Oglesby in Pontiac, Illinois.
He was a U.S. Navy Veteran, serving on the USS Ticonderoga. He continued his military service for the Army National Guard.
Harvey was a "Jack of all trades". He worked with his father on their farm, restaurant and painting businesses. He started his own construction business, Circle W Construction that he ran with his son. Harvey work for several years with SEI Community Action in the weatherization department.
He was a member of the VFW and past commander. He was also a member of the Eagles Club and American Legion. Harvey was a big supporter of Veterans and law enforcement organizations. He made model trains and was a member of Southeast Iowa Model Railroad. He was a regular at Hungry Bear and enjoyed a piece of pie and glass of tea. But most of all, Harvey loved working with his son and spending time with his grandkids.
Survivors include wife, Dixie; four children, Jeff Winstead of Burlington, Brian (Donna) Winstead of Pontiac, IL, Lloyd (Christa) Winstead of Burlington, and Rikki Garrett of Burlington; 14 grandchildren; one great grandchild; one brother, Doug (Paula) Winstead of St. Louis, MO; two sisters, Daisy Cunningham of Pontiac, IL, and Tallulah (Tim) Scott of Pontiac, IL and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; daughter, Lori and three of his siblings, Nancy, Dewey and Linda.
The Graveside Committal Service for Mr. Winstead will be 11:00 AM Friday, June 10, 2022, in the Mausoleum at Burlington Memorial Park Cemetery. Full military honors will be rendered by the Burlington Area Veterans Honor Guard. A time of food and fellowship will be held following the burial at 1:00 PM in Shelter House 3 in Perkins Park.
A memorial has been established for local veterans organizations.
