J.D. Stucker

J.D. Stucker, 83, of Danville, died Friday, July 31, 2026, at the University of Iowa Hospitals & Clinics in Iowa City.

Born on December 30, 1942, in Burlington, he was the son of Dwight and Betty Hingst Stucker. After his mother, Betty, died when he was 10 years old, he was raised by his father, Dwight, and his stepmother, Nettie Elizabeth Hipp Stucker. On August 21, 1964, he married the love of his life, Patricia Wagner, at Danville United Church. Together they shared nearly 63 years of marriage, building a life centered on love, family, and their cherished farm.

J.D. graduated from Danville High School in 1961, where he earned All-Conference honors in football all four years. He later attended Northeast Missouri State University and Iowa Wesleyan University.

He proudly served his country in the U.S. Army National Reserve.

Farming was never just J.D.'s occupation; it was his passion, his heritage, and his way of life. A lifelong farmer, he remained actively involved in the operations and still looked forward to climbing into the combine each harvest. He found great joy in raising livestock and working the land, and nothing made him prouder than passing that love on to his children and grandchildren. As a dedicated 4-H leader, J.D. inspired countless young people through his love of farming. He took great pride in showing sheep at the Des Moines County Fair and the Iowa State Fair, helping build a family tradition that continues today through the fourth generation.

Above all else, J.D. was devoted to his family. He was a loving husband, a proud father and grandfather, and a delighted great-grandfather. His greatest happiness came from time spent with those he loved; whether working alongside them on the farm, cheering them on at the fairgrounds, celebrating milestones, or simply gathering together. He led by example through his hard work and unwavering love, leaving a legacy that will continue through the generations of his family.

J.D. also had a deep love for the Danville community he called home. He believed in giving back and dedicated many years of service to causes that strengthened the town and its future. He was a member of Danville Methodist Church, served on the Access Energy Board, and was a member of the Danville School Board for more than 20 years. Even after his own children and grandchildren had graduated, he remained one of Danville's biggest supporters, rarely missing an opportunity to cheer on the Bears from the stands.

J.D. will be remembered for his steadfast love of family, his dedication to the land, his generous spirit, and his unwavering commitment to the community he was proud to call home.

Survivors include his beloved wife, Patricia Stucker; three sons, Doug (Melanie) Stucker, Corey (Kathy) Stucker and Jason (Erin) Stucker; eight grandchildren, Abigail (Anthony) McQuillen, Courtney (Evan) Von De Linde, Shelby Stucker, Caitlin Stucker, Madison Stucker, Gage Stucker, Aaden Stucker, and Grant Stucker; two great-grandchildren, Kylie Loyd and Hagen Loyd; brother, Dennis (Diana Jo) Stucker; two sisters, Claudia Hoelzen and Linda (Dave) Gerdes; aunt, Bev Williams and several nieces, nephews and cousins. 

He was preceded in death by his parents, brother-in-law, Mike Hoelzen and his aunts and uncles.

Visitation will be from 9:00 AM until 11:00 AM with the family to receive friends Wednesday, August 5, 2026 at Danville Methodist Church.

The memorial service for Mr. Stucker will be 11:00 AM Wednesday, August 5, 2026, at Danville Methodist Church with Jacob Yochum officiating. A private graveside service will be held in Shinar Cumberland Presbyterian Cemetery in Pleasant Grove at a later date.
