James Allen Fleming, 77, of Burlington, died peacefully at home surrounded by his family at 6:15 PM Saturday, February 6, 2021.
Born January 15, 1944, in Burlington, he was the son of Lester H. and Mildred L. Mapes Fleming. On June 26, 1993, he married Carol L. Durfee in Burlington.
Jim graduated from Burlington High School and then went on to serve his country as a United States Marine, earning a Purple Heart
Jim enjoyed fishing and boating and coin collecting. He liked to go to Jerry's Main Lunch and spend time with his friends and family.
Survivors include his wife of 27 years-Carol of Burlington; son, James P. Fleming, of Clear Lake, IA; 2-daughters, Michelle (Darrin) Olin of LaHarpe, IL, and Marnie (Steve) Damewood of Kirkwood, IL; step-sons, Todd (Valerie) Felland of Danville and Tim (Deanna) Felland of Burlington; 10 grandchildren: Andrea, Stephanie, Ashley, Courtney, Paige, Brody, Austin, Alex, Maddi, and Tanner; three great-grandchildren: Logan, Emery and Collins.
He was preceded in death by his parents, only brother, Phil Fleming of Burlington and three sisters, Sharon Bessine, Janet Mumm and Marilyn Fleming.
Family will receive friends from 5:00 PM until 7:00 PM Thursday, February 11, 2021, culminating with military rites at Prugh~Thielen Funeral Home.
Memorials have been established for Hope Haven Area Development Center and Des Moines County Animal Shelter.
