Janell Gerig

Janell Gerig, 77, of Fort Madison, died Tuesday, August 27, 2024, at the Southeast Iowa Regional Medical Center in West Burlington.

Born May 16, 1947, in Oklahoma, she was the daughter of Jim and Nanny Mae Rose Phillips. On May 13, 1972, she married Robert Gerig. He preceded her in death on May 14, 2021. 

She worked as a restaurant cook and later provided day care services.

She enjoyed sewing, especially making stockings, and baking. She loved her grandkids and great-grandkids and spending time with them.

Survivors include her son, Mike (Dana) Monge of Fort Madison; two daughters, Ketina (Pete) Mitchell of Ozark, AL, and Tracy (Duane) Goudge of Kelso, WA; step-daughter, Dawn (Darrell) Triano of Patterson, CA; 15 grandkids; 17 great-grandkids; sister, Gracie Mae (Dale) Davis of Silverton, OR; son-in-law, Chuck Marsh of Miles City, MT; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, three brothers, Roger, Ray and Lloyd Phillips, sister, Geneva, and step-daughter, Wendy Marsh. 

Cremation has been entrusted to the care of Prugh Crematory.

A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date. 

A memorial has been established for St. Jude's Children's Research Hospital.
