Janina Zagorski, age 96, just 19 days short of 97, passed away Friday, May 21, 2021, at her home surrounded by family.
Born June 10, 1924, in Warsaw, Poland, she was the daughter of Czeslaw and Josefa Gajkowski. She experienced the hardship of WWII in Poland and Austria. Janina married John Szabluk in 1946 in Austria and they migrated to the United States in 1952. She was widowed in 1960. A year later in 1961, she married Jan Zagorski.
She was a member of Divine Mercy Parish. Janina was a loving mother, grandmother "Bopchi" and matriarch of her family for the past 40 years. She also managed apartment homes in the area.
Janina dearly loved her family. She enjoyed flowers and fishing in the Mississippi River, where she was known as Mrs. "Z" and the original flower lady and master gardener. Curing her friends plant problems.
She is survived by her children, Maria Szabluk, Sofie (Dave) Dorn, Jon Zagorski, Irene (Dean) Hahn, all of Burlington; grandchildren, Christine Leffler, Bernie Zagorski, Sandy (Derek) Jarmicki, Jeremy (Andrea) Dorn, Rachael (David) Hunt, Heidi Zagorski, Brandy Zagorski, Tiffany Zagorski, Johnna (Zac) Libben and Noelle Hahn; many great-grandchildren; and brother, Wieslaw Gajkowski.
She is preceded in death by her parents, husbands, sisters, Wanda and Czeslawa, brother Zbygnef and stepson, Roman Zagorski.
The family has requested that all who attend service to social distance and wear face masks.
Her family will receive friends following a noon Rosary Service until 2:00 PM Wednesday, May 26, 2021, at Divine Mercy Parish-St. John the Baptist Catholic Church.
The Funeral Mass of the Resurrection for Mrs. Zagorski will be 2:00 PM Wednesday, May 26, 2021, at Divine Mercy Parish-St. John the Baptist Catholic Church with Very Rev. Father Marty Goetz as the Celebrant.
A private family burial will be held following the service.
In lieu of flowers, memorials have been established for Divine Mercy Parish and Hospice Home Health in her memory.
