Joanne C. Mauer

Joanne Carol Mauer, 83, of Burlington, died at 3:11 PM Tuesday, October 12, 2021, at the Southeast Iowa Regional Hospice House in West Burlington.

Born July 13, 1938, in Omaha, NE, she was the daughter of Joseph and Martha Wahl Bruner. On May 27, 1961, she married Bill Lee Mauer in Omaha, NE. He passed on December 7, 2000.

She graduated from South Omaha High School.

Joanne was the co-owner of Five Flags before her retirement. 

She was an avid reader and the occasional crossword. She enjoyed music, gardening and going to the casino. She was always up for a challenge. Joanne loved spending time with her family and was affectionately known as "momo" and "mojo" by her grandchildren. 

Survivors include her son, Brent (Michele) Mauer of Mediapolis; daughter, Lisa Mauer of Burlington; grandchildren, Anna Woodward, Darby McCormick, Kellsie Goldman, and Jamie Mauer; five great-grandchildren and two on the way; and brother, Russ Bruner of Nebraska.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband and sister, Lyla. 

Visitation will be from noon until 4:00 PM with the family to receive friends from 2:00 PM until 4:00 PM Sunday, October 17, 2021 at Prugh~Thielen Funeral Home.

A private family burial will be in Hawkeye Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorials has been established for Transition DMC Inc and Hawkeye Cemetery Fund.
