John William Russell, 75, of Wapello, died at 9:35 am Saturday, February 23, 2019, at the Morning Sun Care Center.
Born February 1, 1944, in Burlington, IA, he was the son of Frank William and Fleta Irene Pulse Russell. He married Barbara McClelland on July 2, 1999 in and she later passed on August 11, 2005.
John was a shipping supervisor in a textile mill in North Carolina for 33 years.
He was a U.S. Army Veteran, from 1961 until 1967.
He was an avid basketball and baseball fan, as well as a die-hard fan of the Hawkeyes and the North Carolina Tar Heels. He also enjoyed gambling from time to time, and fishing when he was living in North Carolina.
Survivors include one daughter, Rhonda (Jerry) Bosch of Wapello, IA, one grandson, Tyler (Stephanie) Brown of Wapello, IA, two great-granddaughters, Averie and Leilani Brown, one sister, Mable Ann (Wilbur) Hartsock of GA, and several nieces and nephews.
Besides his wife, he was preceded in death his parents, three brothers, three sisters, a granddaughter, one son-in-law, and one niece.
Cremation has been entrusted to the care of Prugh~Thielen Crematory.
The memorial visitation for Mr. Russell will be Sunday, March 3, from 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM at Prugh~Thielen Funeral Home. Full military honors will be rendered by the Burlington Area Veterans Honor Guard at the conclusion of the memorial visitation.
