Jon Frischkorn Obituary

Jon Paul Frischkorn, 84, of Burlington, passed away from complications related to COVID-19 on Thursday, February 11, 2021, at Great River Medical Center.
Born December 5, 1936, in Wellsville, OH, he was the son of Jason Herbert and Ruth Lucile Serafy Frischkorn.
Jon earned his Bachelor's degree from Geneva College in Pennsylvania; his Master's degree in Religious Education from Fuller Theological Seminary and his Master's degree in School Administration from Pasadena College in California; earlier, he studied at Kenyon and Mount Union Colleges in Ohio; later, he studied at Western Illinois University and the University of Iowa.  While at Geneva College, Jon met Mary Joan McClurkin of Morning Sun, Iowa. They were married on December 23, 1959 at Sharon Reformed Presbyterian Church in Morning Sun, Iowa.
Jon worked as a teacher at Pasadena Christian School and Prospect Hill Elementary School.  He then worked with Burlington Community School District as an elementary school principal: Salter School (1969-1979); Corse (1979-89); Perkins and Blackhawk (1989-1992).  From 2001 through 2016, he worked as principal, or served as a board member, at Great River Christian School.
For Jon’s entire career, he devoted himself to educating and nurturing children.  He loved education as well as agriculture.  Raised on a dairy farm, he continued his lifetime of farming in Morning Sun, where he raised corn and beans; harvesting a crop thrilled him.  From his early time as an instructor, he taught physical education. Jon’s life was filled with physical activity and exercise. Starting with handball, his passion was playing competitive racquetball.  He found joy in teaching the sport and sharing the fun of playing hard. At the Greater Burlington YMCA, he was admired for his cordial and competitive spirit on the court for four decades. Never slowing down, Jon continually explored such active hobbies as snow skiing, antique tractor drives, and cutting firewood.
Jon loved his Savior, his family, his friends, and his community with his caring spirit.  He was known for his ability to lead, to encourage, and to make others smile.  Jon was an active church member at Wings of Praise Outreach Center.
Survivors include his wife of 61 years, Mary Joan (McClurkin) Frischkorn of Burlington; his sister, Lillian Wellington of Wellsville, OH; his brothers, Jason (George Ann) and Ronald (Mary Anne) Frischkorn of Wellsville, and Donald (Janice) Frischkorn of Cedar Rapids, IA; his son, Jon Craig (Shauna) Frischkorn of Willow Street, PA; his daughter, Margery Ann (Alan) Frischkorn Brown of Jefferson City, MO; and his grandchildren, Maria Elise Brown of Jefferson City, MO, and Jack Craig Frischkorn of Willow Street, PA; several nieces and nephews, and many friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother-in-law, William Wellington.
