Joseph "J.D." Wilson Obituary

Joseph "J.D." Dewayne Wilson, 78, of Gladstone, died Friday, April 18, 2025, at the Southeast Iowa Regional Medical Center in West Burlington.

Born December 11, 1946, in Fall City, NE, he was the son of Clarence and Maxine Brown Wilson. On January 23, 1967, he married the love of his life, Michele "Mickey" Marie Knotts in Burlington. She died January 7, 2023.

He was a U.S. Navy Veteran, serving on the USS Taluga during the Vietnam War from March 18, 1964 until December 16, 1966.

J.D. was a hardworking, honest man who always kept his word and appreciated when others did the same.  He loved welding, following in his father's footsteps.  J.D. traveled all over the US doing pipeline work and on the road in his truck, which he took great pride in it.  He enjoyed the outdoors; hunting, fishing or spending time on river. Most of all, he loved his wife and family.

His passing leaves a deep sadness, but his memory will continue on through all who love him.

Survivors include his children, Robert Wilson, Renee (James) Murphy, and Mamie Sue (Kyle) Elliot; nine grandchildren; 17 great grandchildren; one brother, John Wilson; and one sister, Evelyn Carlisle.

Besides his wife, he was preceded in death by his parents, daughter-in-law, Barbara, granddaughter, Cherity Wilson, sister Pam Still and nephew Robert Lynn.

A graveside service for J.D. is scheduled for Tuesday, May 13, 1:00 PM, at Sacred Heart Cemetery in Burlington.  Military honors will be rendered by the U.S. Navy.

A memorial has been established for Shriners Children's Hospital.
