Kevin L. Copeland

Kevin L. Copeland, 44, of Burlington, died unexpectedly Thursday, February 12, 2026, at his home.

Born August 4, 1981, in Burlington, he was the son of Kerman Lee and Carol Sue Cullen Copeland. On October 22, 2005, he married Tabitha Myers in Burlington. 

He was a 1999 graduate of Mediapolis High School. Kevin continued his education at SCC and Western Illinois University, where he earned his bachelor’s degree in Graphic Design.

Kevin proudly served his country in the U.S. Army National Guard for 22 years, with the HHC, 224th Engineer Battalion, where he retired with the final rank of Chief Warrant Officer II. He was deployed with his unit to Iraq during Operation Iraqi Freedom from 2004 until 2006, where he received several medals.

He was very active in the Mediapolis American Legion Daniel Matson Post 234, local VFW Post 10102, and was a lifetime member of Ducks Unlimited and the NRA. Though Kevin was a private man, he had a deep love for art and reading. There was nothing he wouldn’t do for others, especially his brothers and sisters in arms.

Survivors include his wife Tabitha and daughters, Grace and Courtney Copeland all of Burlington; his mother, Carol Copeland of Burlington; two brothers, Ross (Melissa) Copeland of Mediapolis, and James R. Copeland of Cedar Rapids; as well as many members of his military family. 

He was preceded in death by his father.

Cremation has been entrusted to the care of Prugh Crematory.

Visitation will be from noon until 6:00 PM with the family to receive friends from 5:00 PM until 6:00 PM Friday, February 27, 2026 at Prugh Funeral Service, 3940 Division Street.

The memorial service for Mr. Copeland will be 11:00 AM Saturday, February 28, 2026, at Prugh Funeral Service, 3940 Division Street. Full military honors will be rendered by the Burlington Area Veterans Honor Guard.
