L. Marjorie Scovern-Lepic Obituary

L. Marjorie "Marj" Scovern-Lepic, 97, of Burlington, died Thursday, March 13, 2025, at Bickford of Burlington in Burlington.

Born November 28, 1927, in Fort Madison, she was the daughter of Lewis E. and Marie Gillett Olson. She graduated from Fort Madison High School in 1945.

On May 25, 1946, she married Vernon D. Scovern. Together they had two children. He died on November 16, 1989.

Marjorie worked in the purchasing departments of W.A. SheafferPen Company and Block and Kuhl Jewelry Store until she and her husband, Vernon, moved to Des Moines in 1947. In Des Moines, she worked for Remington Rand and Dykstra & Brown Attorneys until 1952, when they returned to the New London area. She was a homemaker until 1966 when she returned to work in the personnel department at Mason and Hanger, where she worked until November of 1976. She then accepted a job as a interviewer for Job Service of Iowa. She worked eight years in the Burlington office and eight years in the Mt. Pleasant office before retiring in 1993.

On June 28, 1997, she married Lawrence James Lepic in Yarmouth United Church of Christ in Yarmouth, IL. He died on September 18, 2018. She and Larry traveled extensively, wintering in Arizona and spent the summers in their rural New London home.

She was a member of Yarmouth United Church for 25 years until its closure. Marjorie was currently a member of Danville United Church of Christ and VFW Ladies Auxiliary #7641 of New London. She enjoyed dancing, quilting, traveling and fishing.

Survivors include her daughter, Marilee Byczek of Lockridge; one son, Robert (Bobbie) Scovern of West Burlington; five grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

Besides her husbands, she was preceded in death by her parents, infant son, son-in-law and two brothers.

Cremation has been entrusted to the care of Prugh Crematory.

There will be no services at this time.

Memorials have been established for the Shrines Crippled Children's Fund and the Burlington Public Library.
