Les Clayton, 72, of Burlington, died at 12:45 pm Friday, July 16, 2021, at his home.
Born July 24, 1948, in Fort Pierce, FL, he was the son of George Westley and Virginia Lee Morgan Clayton. He married Connie Bergheger in 1967 and they later divorced in 1970. On September 1, 1970, he married Belinda Gayle Clark in New London, MO. She later passed on September 1, 2013.
Les worked 22 years at the Mt. Pleasant Correctional Facility.
He loved to collect old toy cars and beer steins and watching NASCAR racing, rooting for Dale Earnhardt Sr.
Survivors include daughter, Penny Clayton, three grandchildren, Thaine (Erika) Ericson, Courtnee Tomlinson, and Paig Tomlinson; four great-grandchildren, Kaine Ericson, Kaycee Ericson, Adelyn Hepner, and Peyton Tomlinson; three sisters, Peggy (Roger) Woodhurst, Lynn Barrow, and Margie (Stanford) Cole; numerous nieces and nephews by marriage, and his close friends, Danny, Frankie, and Jamie Epperson, Dee and Steve Tonzer, and Shari Riddle.
He was preceded in death by his second wife, parents, four brothers, George, Johnnie, Frankie and James; two sisters, Joyce Finnigan and Elmyra Snyder; and one son, Leslie Jr.
Cremation has been entrusted to the care of Prugh Crematory.
Per the families wishes, there will be no visitation or services.
