Marie Margaret Macans, 83, of West Burlington, died at 5:40 am Saturday, October 23, 2021, at the Southeast Iowa Regional Medical Center in West Burlington.
Born May 14, 1938, in Chicago, IL she was the daughter of Joseph Moravec and Doris Maria Mendelick. Her mother Doris later married George Borowski who adopted her as his own. On April 22, 1960, she married Heinrich "Mac" Macans in Chicago, IL. He later passed on January 16, 2004.
She was a team truck driver with her husband for many years, working for Sharkey Transportation.
She was a member of Divine Mercy Parish - SS Mary and Patrick Catholic Church. She was a very godly and spiritual woman. She did everything she could not only for her kids, but for the neighborhood kids, and was an adopted mother to many. She was a great cook, with staples of apple slices and spaghetti sauce, and also enjoyed crocheting afghans and dolls. Most of all, she will be remembered for her positive attitude that radiated to everyone around her.
Survivors include three sons; George (Gina) Macans of Whidbey, WA, James (Sue-Ann) Macans of Union, MS, and Heinrich (Lisa) Macans, Jr. of West Burlington, seven grandchildren; Alan Macans of Seattle, WA, Brandon (Nicole) Jarvis of Burlington, Shannon (Robby) Hatcher of Union, MS, Jessica (Stephen) Macans-Robertson of Morning Sun, IA, Heather (Joe) Mutchler of Burlington, Sheldon (Candy) Macans of Burlington, and Cass Macans of Middletown, IA, 16 great-grandchildren and 1 great-great-grandchild, one brother; Frank Moravec and his wife of Big Sandy, MT, and many extended family members and friends.
Besides her husband, she is preceded in death by one brother, Joseph Moravec, and two grandsons, Justin and Brian.
Visitation will be from noon until 7:00 PM with the family to receive friends from 5:00 PM until 7:00 PM Tuesday, October 26, 2021, at Prugh~Thielen Funeral Home. Burial will be in Keokuk National Cemetery on April 22, 2022 at 2:00 PM.
Cremation has been entrusted to the Prugh Crematory.
In lieu of flowers, a memorial has been established for Divine Mercy Parish-SS Mary and Patrick Catholic Church.
