Marilyn Evans Obituary

Marilyn J. Evans, 87, of Burlington, died peacefully Thursday, Dec. 28 th , 2023, at her home in Burlington.

Born July 28 th , 1936, in Burlington, she was the daughter of Phillip and Dorothy (Hillman) Anderson. On June
17, 1956, she married Volney Evans in Burlington.

Marilyn graduated from Stronghurst High School, in Illinois, in 1954 as class valedictorian. She was a lifelong
learner and enjoyed attending classes at Western Illinois University and Southeastern Community College.

Over the years, Marilyn worked at Champion Spark Plug Co., sold real estate and clerked at Nature’s Corner.
She was an adult literacy volunteer and was enthusiastic about local and state politics. She was a peace
activist who loved discussing the news. Marilyn also enjoyed traveling with her husband, Volney, and they
went on many adventures together during their 67-year marriage.

Whether propagating plants or enjoying long walks to Crapo Park, Marilyn was a nature lover. She also
enjoyed live music, boating on the Mississippi River and taking in the arts with family and friends. She was a
fun and engaging companion. She made the best pies. According to her, she “liked reading, roses, rhubarb and

Survivors include her husband, Volney Evans, of Burlington; daughters Jennifer Evans (Bill Jones) of Oak Park,
Ill., and Jane Evans of Burlington; son Steve (Barbara) Evans of Stronghurst; grandchildren Matthew Evans,
Ryan Evans, Jourdan Evans, Jovan Williams, Daniel Jones, Mary Jones and Derrick Fox; a great-granddaughter,
Lydia Lee; her sister, Nancy Bunt; brothers Tom Anderson, Paul Anderson and John Anderson; and several
nieces and nephews.

Marilyn was preceded in death by her parents and one brother, Jim Anderson and one sister, Linda Anderson.

Cremation has been entrusted to Prugh Crematory. Prugh Funeral Service is in care of the arrangements.

A celebration of life will be held at a later time.
