Mary Helen Broeg-Garrett, 91, of West Burlington, died at 1:53 PM Thursday, February 11, 2021, at the Great River Klein Center in West Burlington.
Born November 26, 1929, Iowa, she was the daughter of Albertus and Naomi Martin.
She spent most of her life as a homemaker, but later in life worked as a Nursing Assistant at Home Caring.
Mary was a fun loving mother to all nine of her children. Although she could have a spunky personality at times, she was patient, soft spoken, and incredibly kind. She was known for making delicious fried chicken and SPAM sandwiches, and enjoyed doing her crossword puzzles each day. She was a wonderful light in the world and her spirit will continue on.
Survivors include her eight children, Mary (David) Wagner of San Jose, CA, Richard (Mary) Broeg of Rabbit Hash, KY, Michael Broeg of Harrison, AR, Thomas (Charlotte) Broeg of Edgewood, KY, Janet Ramsdell of Burlington, Roseanne Broeg of Burlington, Sandy (Don Verkruyse) Broeg of Burlington, and Carole Miller of Payson, AZ; 26 grandchildren; 36 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews; and she held a special place in her heart for nieces Teddy, Lonnie and Sherrie May.
She was preceded in death by one daughter Linda Szabady, two son-in-laws, Todd Miller and Ron Ramsdell , and one infant grandson, Travis Ramsdell.
A private funeral service for Mary will be on Friday, February 19, 2021, at Prugh~Thielen Funeral Home with Pastor Larry Dodds officiating.
