Mary Grothe, 85, of Danville, died Tuesday, July 18, 2023, at the Clarissa Cook Hospice House in Bettendorf.
Born January 6, 1938, in Burlington, she was the daughter of Urban and Hazel Huppenberger Walz. On November 26, 1959, she married Robert Anthony Grothe in Burlington. He preceded her in death on April 4, 2016.
Mary was a graduate of Burlington Catholic High School.
She was a devoted stay at home mother while raising her kids. She later worked as a payroll clerk for Burlington Medical Center for 20 years.
Mary was a member of Divine Mercy Parish- SS Mary and Patrick Catholic Church in West Burlington. She was always very artistic and enjoyed drawing and painting. She also liked camping and playing Scrabble. Mary was a great care taker for her husband and her family and she dearly loved spending time with her grandchildren.
Survivors include her son, Andy (Cindy) Grothe of Bettendorf; daughter, Lauri Glasgow of Kansas City, KS; three grandchildren, Gabrielle (Ezzio) Jacquez of Texas, Grace Grothe of Clearwater, FL, and Travis (Casey) Volrath of Princeton; great-grandchild, Eastin Volrath of Princeton; three brothers, Tony Walz of Fort Madison, Ed (Sue) Walz of Dubuque, and Joe (Joyce) Walz of Denver, CO; and sister, Anne (Terry) Vancil of Perry.
Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents and sister-in-law, Judy Walz.
Visitation will be from 9:00 AM until 10:00 AM Friday, July 21, 2023 at Prugh Funeral Service, 3940 Division Street.
The funeral service for Mrs. Grothe will be 10:00 AM Friday, July 21, 2023, at Prugh Funeral Service, 3940 Division Street with Fr. Jake Greiner officiating. Burial will be in Sacred Heart Cemetery. A time of food and fellowship will be held in the community room at Prugh Funeral Service following the burial.
A memorial has been established for Danville Fire and Rescue.
