Norma Jean Smith, 85, of West Burlington, died Saturday, July 22, 2023, surrounded by family.
Born April 3, 1938, in Clinton, IA, she was the daughter of Roy and Pansy Holman Rice. She was raised by her Uncle Mart. On May 12, 1956, she married Maurice Alton Smith in Morrison, IL. He died January 31, 2002.
Norma used to work at Lehigh-Leopold Furniture, Maurie's 10-Pin Tap, and the ammunition plant in Middletown, Iowa.
She enjoyed camping, fishing, mushroom hunting, bingo, bowling, puzzles, trips around Walmart in her later years, and spending time at the cabin with her family.
Survivors include her children, Cheryl (Dwayne Parnell) Noble of Burlington, Bobbie (Bob) Scovern of West Burlington, Maurice (Anne) Smith, Jr. of Gladstone, IL, and Marty (Laurie) Smith of West Burlington; nine grandchildren, Angie (Travis) Appelgate, Crystal Schnedler, Courtney Scovern, Luke Scovern, Margo (Colby Rhodd) Noble, Kyla (Oren) Land, Andy (Alyssa) Smith, Logan Smith, and Megan Smith and seven great grandchildren.
Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents, two siblings, Geraldine and Wayne, one grandson, Darrin and life long friend, Shirley Augsburger.
Norma has chosen to donate her body to the University of Iowa Deeded Body Program to continue the educational development of future generation. There will be no formal services.
A memorial has been established for Southeast Iowa Regional Home Hospice.
