Patricia Darlene Shannon, 84, of Burlington, passed away peacefully at 1:22 PM Saturday, December 18, 2021, at Arbor Court in Mount Pleasant.
Born December 23, 1937, in Rushville, IL, she was the daughter of Sherman and Eva Cox Phillips. On July 6th, 1958 she married Ansel Shannon at Woodlawn Baptist Church in Burlington.
She was a 1954 graduate of Burlington High School.
She was a long time employee of Vista Bakery (Shearer's Foods).
She was originally of Baptist faith, and attended the West Burlington Christian Church. She was a mother to many, and always worried and cared for her family. She was very outgoing, and loved to cook for whomever came to her door, with favorite dishes being ham and potatoes and salmon patties. She was always caring for the people around her, even when they weren't her blood family. While her grandson Anthony was in the military, she enjoyed spending her time sending gift boxes to soldiers through the S.O.F.T. program. Her biggest hobby was loving her family and making sure they were well taken care of, and had everything they needed.
Survivors include her husband, Ansel Shannon of Burlington; one son, Michael Shannon of Burlington; five grandchildren, Anthony Selters of Burlington, Bryan (Kristina) Selters of Lawrence, KS, Garret Selters of Burlington, Kaitlyn Shannon of Burlington, and Bryce (Alexis Hamilton) Shannon of Burlington; one great-grandchild on the way, Fallon Marie Shannon; two sisters, Jane Sommerfeld of Burlington, and Retha (Bill) Butler of Morning Sun, IA; one brother, Joe (Wanda) Phillips of Danville, IA; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, two daughters, Linda Selters and Diana Shannon, and two brothers, Robert and David Phillips.
The family will receive friends from 10:00 AM until 11:00 AM, December 28, 2021 at Prugh Thielen Funeral Home.
The funeral service for Mrs. Shannon will be 11:00 AM Tuesday, December 28, 2021, at Prugh~Thielen Funeral Home with Pastor Dean Graber officiating. A private family burial will take place in Cox Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, a memorial has been established the S.O.F.T. program (Supporting Our Families & Troops) and Relay for Life.
