Phyllis Knopp Obituary

Phyllis Antonette Knopp, 95, of Burlington, died at 3:14 PM Tuesday, October 19, 2021, at the Klein Center in West Burlington.

Born July 5, 1926, in Burlington, she was the daughter of Edward Marcus and Josephine Marie Deitering Kelso. On August 5, 1950, she married Richard Laverne Knopp in Burlington. He later passed on July 9, 2019.

Phyllis was a homemaker at heart, but also spent 10 plus years working the gift shop at Mercy Hospital.

She was a 1944 graduate of St. Paul's Catholic High School. 

She was a member of SS. John & Paul Catholic Church and the Daughters of Isabella. She was a member of the Mercy Hospital auxiliary, St. Francis Care Center auxiliary and the AARP.  She enjoyed crocheting, yard work, and being outdoors. She also collected Hallmark Ornaments and enjoyed her cutting jobs to help out the activity director at the Klein Center.

Survivors include three nieces; Ann Marie (Jeff) Japsen of Burlington, Mary Lee Stevenson of Marion, IA, and Lisa Knopp of Lincoln, NE, three nephews; John Kelso of CT, John Knopp of TX, and Jamie Knopp of CO, several great and great-great nieces and nephews, and her two adopted granddaughters, Emily and Holli Taylor.

Besides her husband, she is preceded in death by three brothers; Richard, Wayne, and James Kelso, two sisters; Joan Brooks, and Rebecca Kelso, one niece; Joani Sturms, and two nephews; Jay Brooks and Brian Kelso.

Visitation will be from 9:00 AM until 10:00 AM on Saturday, October 23, 2021 at Divine Mercy Parish-St. John the Baptist Catholic Church.

The Funeral Mass of the Resurrection for Mrs. Knopp will be 10:00 AM Saturday, October 23, 2021 at Divine Mercy Parish-St. John the Baptist Catholic Church with Rev. James Flattery as the Celebrant. Burial will be in Sacred Heart Cemetery.  A time of food and fellowship will be held in the St. John's Cafeteria following the burial.

In lieu of flowers, a memorial had been established for Divine Mercy Parish-SS. John & Paul Catholic Church.
