Richard J Braun, 87, of Burlington, died at 9:15 PM Monday, May 16, 2022, at his home.
Born August 21, 1934, in Burlington, he was the son of Joseph Edward and Agnes Catherine Moehn Braun. On February 11, 1961, he married Elaine R. Weniger at Divine Mercy Parish - St. John The Baptist Church in Burlington. She passed on January 29, 2012.
Richard graduated from St. Paul's High School in Burlington in 1952, and obtained his Bachelor's of Science from Iowa State University in 1957.
He was an electrical engineer, working for McDonnell Douglas in St. Louis for two years, and for the Iowa Army Ammunition Plant for 35 years.
He was a U.S. Army Veteran, from August 7, 1957 until July 23, 1959.
He was a devout Catholic, and a member of Divine Mercy Parish - St. John the Baptist Catholic Church. He taught religious education for over 20 years at the church, and more recently served as a greeter. Richard enjoyed playing golf, duplicate bridge, poker, and liked to read. He also appreciated Burlington history, and going to Old Threshers. Most of all, he loved his family, and always loved going on family trips, and seeing everyone together at family reunions.
Survivors include three sons, Robert Braun of Rock Island, IL, Charles (Jodi) Braun of Boone, IA, and Kenneth (Brenda) Braun of Ankeny, IA; one daughter, Ovanda (Patrick) O'Meara of Indianola, IA; eleven grandchildren, Ethan, Logan, Stephanie, Rachel, Tiffany, Emily, Alyssa, Aaron, Mark, Anastasia and David; three sisters, Carol Brandt of Burlington, Sister Kathy Braun of Burlington, and Kristina (Ken) Cooper of Phoenix, AZ; one brother, James Braun of Dubuque, IA; and several nieces and nephews.
Besides his wife, he is preceded in death by his brothers, Mike, John and Danny, and his sister Mary.
Visitation will be from 12:00 PM until 7:00 PM with the family to receive friends from 5:00 PM until 7:00 PM Friday, May 20, 2022, at Prugh~Thielen Funeral Home. The visitation will be concluded with a 7:00 PM Rosary Service.
The Funeral Mass of the Resurrection for Mr. Braun will be 10:00 AM Saturday, May 21, 2022, at Divine Mercy Parish-St. Mary's Catholic Church with Rev. James Flattery as the Celebrant. Burial will be in Sacred Heart Cemetery. A time of food and fellowship will be held in the luncheon hall at St. Mary's Catholic church following the burial.
Memorials have been established for Great River Hospice, and Divine Mercy Parish - St. John the Baptist Catholic Church.
