Richard Leon Rump, 81, of Florence, Arizona died at 3:00 AM Wednesday, January 27, 2021, surrounded by his family in Gilbert, Arizona.
Born February 13, 1939, in Burlington, Iowa, he was the son of Urban Magnus and Margaret Leone MacGregor Rump. He graduated from Burlington Catholic High School in 1957. On April 23, 1960, he married Sherry Nadine Kelly at St. John’s the Baptist Catholic Church in Burlington, Iowa.
Richard had a long career in retail sales and management. For fifteen years from 1972 to 1987, he and Sherry were the owner/managers of two Convenient Food Marts in Canton, IL. After moving to Arizona in 1992, he worked for Home Depot in Phoenix and Prescott for twenty years.
He was a member of St. John’s Parish and the Moose Lodge in Burlington. He was a member of the Lion’s Club, Knights’ of Columbus, Moose Lodge, and Chamber of Commerce in Canton. He was a member of St. Michael’s the Archangel Church in Florence. Richard enjoyed the outdoors, fishing, camping, boating, woodworking and gardening.
Survivors include his wife of 60 years, Sherry; three sons, Richard Rump (Regina) of Williamsville, IL. Kenneth Rump of Buckeye, AZ, and Donald Rump (Heather) of Gilbert, AZ; one daughter, Barbara Tompkins of Scottsdale, AZ; seven grandchildren, Amber Dorn, who they raised, Kenny Rump, Amanda Tompkins, Robert Tompkins, Kathleen (Benjamin) VonDerHaar, Allison Rump and Christopher Rump; five great grandchildren; Alice, Rozlynn and Emery Tompkins, Josalynn Barnett, and Logan Dorn; two brothers, Urban Rump, Jr. (Carol) of Woodstock, GA, and William Rump (Jane) of Spring, TX, two sisters-in-law, Nancy Knoll of Houston, TX and Lorna Rump of Cedar Rapids, IA and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents and four brothers, Robert, John, Edward and James.
Visitation will be from 4:00 PM until 6:00 PM with the family to receive friends, Sunday, February 7, 2021, at Prugh~Thielen Funeral Home.
The Funeral Mass of the Resurrection for Mr. Rump will be 11:00 AM Monday, February 8, 2021, at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church with Rev. James Flattery as the Celebrant. Burial will be in Sacred Heart Cemetery.
Due to the concerns regarding COVID-19, attendees will be required to wear masks and practice social distancing.
