Good morning. We have just learned of Bob's passing. I somehow missed this the last time I had checked. We lost track of Bob quite some time ago, and didn't know how to find him. My husband's name is Fred... Bob would affectionately call him Freddie. He was something like a second dad to Fred during the 1- to 2-week fishing trips we would take to Bull Shoals Lake in Arkansas. Fred's dad passed away in 1992. Bob was also like a dad to me, as well. He took us under his wing to show us how to better fish the beautiful, clear lake, and would often take us with him for at least one trip each year. We would enjoy going to breakfast with him on our trips, and the whole resort looked forward to our annual pork chop dinner, including the resort owners, Jim & Sandy Smakal. Bob would provide the chops, and we'd all make a dish to pass. My favorite part of the trip, though, was helping Bob prepare the Morel mushrooms he would bring each year. He showed me how to crush the Saltines and we would make them together. We would always make some for us first, because we had to "test them", of course. But then we'd make the rest and he would pass them out to the others at the resort. We would usually help Bob snap the tarp down onto his trusty boat. That tarp never did stretch much, and it took pliers and several sets of strong hands to do it. For many years, we would all go to dinner on the Friday before we left to return home. Those were such good times. We miss them and have missed them for about 5 years or more now. His good friend, Tom Cross, passed away prior to last July. I'm sorry we couldn't get back in touch with Bob, but he never mentioned last names (or we didn't remember them) when he spoke of family. I'm so sorry for your loss, and also for ours.

I am very sorry to hear of the loss of, Mr. Alltop. With all his accomplishments, he was an amazing man! I won't pretend to know what you're going through, but what has helped me deal with the loss of those I love is turning to the Scriptures, something that has been a real source of comfort. One Scripture that gives me hope is John 11:25, which says, " Jesus said to her: “I am the resurrection and the life. The one who exercises faith in me, even though he dies, will come to life." I hope that this verse will also comfort you and, I hope you and your family can get through this difficult time. Please accept my condolence for the loss of your beloved father, grandpa and friend. Sincerely, Meryl, jw.org - healingwordsforu@gmail.com
