Roberta Amenell Obituary

Roberta Amenell, 82, of Burlington, died at 11:01 PM Monday, October 4, 2021 at her home surrounded by family.

Born March 4, 1939, in Burlington, she was the daughter of Joseph Francis and Bernice Catherine Krabbe Hauser. On January 4, 1964, she married Jerry Lee Amenell at St. John's Catholic Church in Burlington. He passed on May 14, 2006.

She graduated from Burlington High School in 1958. She attended Southeastern Community College in West Burlington

Roberta was a stewardess on Ozark Airlines prior to marrying Jerry. Later she worked as a Mason-Hanger employee on a line, eventually working her way up. She then worked at IAAP as a Contract Administrator, retiring after 35 years. 

She was of Catholic faith and was a member of Divine Mercy Parish where she attended services at St. John's Catholic Church. She was the treasurer of the St. Vincent de Paul food pantry. Roberta enjoyed fishing, playing cards and especially spending time with her family. 

Survivors include her daughter, Shayla M. (Carl) Blackburn of Niota, IL; sons, Bradley J. Amenell of Burlington and Dustin (Jody) Amenell of Pleasant Hill, IA; six grandchildren, Michael D. Amenell, Ashley Amenell, Brandon J. Bolander, Brooke C.J. Amenell, Paige L. Granzow, Patrick J. Amenell; nine great-grandchildren; her sister, Mary Hauser (Franklin) Lewis; and 10 nieces and nephews. 

Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents and three brothers. 

Visitation will be from 12:00 PM until 5:00 PM with the family to receive friends following a 3:00 PM Rosary service until 5:00 PM Sunday, October 10, 2021, at Prugh~Thielen Funeral Home. 

The Funeral Mass of the Resurrection for Mrs. Amenell will be 10:30 AM Monday, October 11, 2021, at Divine Mercy Parish-St. John the Baptist Catholic Church with Rev. James Flattery as the Celebrant. Burial will be in Sacred Heart Cemetery. A reception will follow at the St. John's Church cafeteria.

In lieu of flowers, a memorial has been established for the St. Vincent de Paul food pantry.
