Ruth Ellen Oaks

Ruth Ellen Oaks, age 80, passed away Friday, May 31, 2024 in West Burlington, Iowa.

Ruth was born October 13, 1943, the daughter of Willard and Anna "Lucille" (Rohr) Goff.  She was a graduate of Kirkwood High School of Kirkwood, Illinois.  Ruth worked for many years at Sylvania as a secretary, and was secretary of the Iron Workers and Operating Engineers.  She also enjoyed working the farm with her husband Dale.

Ruth was a kind, dynamic woman with a wonderful sense of humor.  She loved animals of all sorts, especially during calving season when she loved seeing the babies.  She also appreciated cats and cared for a number of them around the house.  She appreciated automobiles and was quick to add one to her collection and always kept a Corvette on hand.  This love for cars is what brought her and Dale together, and helped start a marriage that would last 60 years.  Ruth's kindness and warmth will be missed, but her memory and legacy will continue on through her family and friends.

Ruth's family include her cherished husband of 60 years, Dale; siblings, Judy Goff and Helen Goff-Tapscott; and numerous nieces and nephews.  Sadly, she is preceded in death by her parents, Willard and Lucille; and siblings, Allen Goff, Ermil "Popeye" Goff and Carroll Goff; and several nieces and nephews.

A simple cremation has been arranged for Ruth in accordance with her wishes.  

Ruth's family will receive guests for a memorial graveside and inurnment on Friday, June 21st, 3 pm at Prairie Grove Cemetery (corner of Beaverdale Road and N. Prairie Grove Rd., West Burlington).

Memorial contributions in Ruth's memory are suggested to PAW Animal Shelter.
