Sally Beckman Obituary

Sally Ann Beckman was the youngest child of Richard R. and Rosemary Delaney Beckman. She was born in Burlington, Iowa on January 9, 1956.

Sally attended St. Paul’s elementary school and Notre Dame High School in Burlington, graduating in 1974. Following in the footsteps of her great-grandmother, grandmother, mother and sister, she enrolled at St. Mary’s College in South Bend, Indiana, where she earned her Bachelor of Science Nursing degree. She later completed a Master of Science Nursing degree at Indiana University-Purdue.

Sally had a deep appreciation for the arts and was talented in many handcrafts, including weaving and knitting. A voracious reader, she always had an e-book device close at hand and she enjoyed giving books to family members and friends as gifts.

Her generous and giving nature guided her career choice as a psychiatric nurse. Sally’s career included many roles at the University of Iowa Hospital and Mercy Hospital in Iowa City, ranging from case manager to psychiatric triage nurse. She was passionate about providing care to all her patients who struggled with mental health issues, and her ability to uplift anyone’s spirits was a gift to all. She was a sincere advocate and a trusted confidant to family members and friends alike.

Travel was a pastime Sally enjoyed immensely, having visited numerous countries across the globe. In her young adult life, she often accompanied her mother, Rosemary, on travels that have become family lore. She was always excited to share the next adventure she was planning.

In addition to a host of loving friends, Sally is survived by her siblings, Sue (Charlie) Farrell, F. Stephen Beckman and David (Susan) Beckman; nieces and nephews Bart (Jennifer) Farrell, Brian (Emma) Farrell, Rich (Melanie) Beckman, Stephen J. (Kristina) Beckman, Molly Beckman, Teresa Beckman, Mindi Billock, Laura Beckman and Chris (Montreux Rotholtz) Beckman, step-niece and step-nephews Rachael (Harry Stegall), Justin (Kristina) Sippel and Jared (Lindsey) Sippel, and several great-nieces and nephews.

Preceding Sally in death were her parents and her sisters-in-law, Mary (Stephen) Beckman and Julie (David) Beckman.
