Samuel Allen Kurrle

Samuel Allen Kurrle, 67, of Burlington, died at 10:16 AM Friday, December 31, 2021 at his home.

Born April 15, 1954, in Triple Army Medical Center in Honolulu, Hawaii, he was the son of James E. and Leanne Corman Kurrle. He married Patricia "Patti" Westfall and together they had four children. They later divorced but continued to raise their children together.

He graduated from Burlington High School and attended Southeastern Community College from 1972-1974.

Sam worked as a union millwright and was sworn into the 410 Union in Fort Madison in 1975 and later transferred to 2158 Union in Burlington. He also worked in commercial fishing, catching blue crab in the Everglades. 

Growing up at Spring Lake, Sam loved nature and spent a lot of time outdoors hunting, fishing, boating, swimming, mushroom hunting, grilling, target shooting, gardening, riding motorcycles and ATV's. He also liked to water ski and snow ski. He was a fan of all sports, especially the Iowa Hawkeyes and St. Louis Cardinals. He enjoyed playing drums, was in a band and loved music. Sam was an animal lover, particularly cats and dogs. He loved to tinker with gadgets and there was nothing he couldn't do. Above all, Sam was happiest when he was spending time with his family.

He will be remembered for his humble lifestyle, general kindness and smile.

Survivors include his parents, James and Leanne Kurrle of Burlington; two daughters, Amber (Jayson) Wulf and Lindsey Kurrle both of Burlington; two sons, Heath (Stacy) Kurrle of West Burlington and Dustin Kurrle of Elkhart, IA; seven grandchildren: Marlee, Ti'Dale, Ara, Regan, Kyra, Rose, and Lucy; two sisters, Nancy Kurrle of Boone, IA and Cindy Patterson of Burlington; many nieces, nephews, and cousins; and extended family member, Tom Ward of Burlington.

He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Art and Ruth Corman and Jim "J.O." and Jennie Kurrle, and his ex-wife, Patti Ward. 

Visitation will be from noon until 3:00 PM with the family to receive friends on Sunday, January 9, 2022 at Prugh~Thielen Funeral Home.

The funeral service for Mr. Kurrle will be 10:00 AM Monday, January 10, 2022, at Prugh~Thielen Funeral Home.Cremation will be entrusted to the care of Prugh Crematory following the service.

A memorial has been established for outdoor youth activities.
