Sharon Kay (Eckrich) Skerik, 83, of Coralville, Iowa, entered eternal life on August 7th at the Bird House in Iowa City after a long illness. The beloved mother of Sarah and Joe, Sharon was predeceased by her parents, William and Lucille Eckrich of Iowa City, and her husband of 38 years, Joseph F. Skerik III of Burlington.
Born December 10, 1938, Sharon attended the old Coralville school, St. Mary’s school in Iowa City, and graduated from Iowa City City High School in 1956. In 1960, she graduated with a bachelor’s of science degree from the University of Iowa, and practiced occupational therapy.
On March 16, 1968, Sharon married J. Skerik at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Iowa City. The couple moved to Burlington, Iowa, and raised two children.Sharon enjoyed a variety of interests, including history, family genealogy, playing bridge, gardening and homemaking. She was a member of SS John and Paul Catholic Church in Burlington, and St. Mary’s in Iowa City.
Sharon is survived by her brother, Dick Eckrich of Wichita, KS, her children, Sarah Skerik Reschly (Blake) of Libertyville, IL, and Joseph F. Skerik IV (Michelle), and two grandchildren, Joseph and Genevieve Skerik, of Tucson.
The family will receive friends from 5:00 PM until 7:00 PM Thursday, August 25, 2022 at Prugh~Thielen Funeral Home.
The Memorial Mass of the Resurrection for Mrs. Skerik will be 10:00 AM Friday, August 26, 2022, at Divine Mercy Parish-St. Paul's Catholic Church with Rev. James Flattery as the Celebrant. Inurnment will be in Sacred Heart Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorials to The Bird House /Hospice Home of Johnson County, where Sharon received excellent care, are welcomed.
