Shirley Maxine Agnew

Shirley Maxine Agnew, 79, of Burlington, died Monday, July 1, 2024, at her home.

Born August 15, 1944, in Mount Pleasant, she was the daughter of Dean and Maxine Conn Nelson. On January 13, 1995, she married Rexford Lee Agnew at the Church of Christ in Burlington. 

She graduated from Burlington High School in 1963. Shirley worked for Great River Medical Center in the insurance department for over 30 years, until her retirement. 

She was a member of Church of Christ and loved to take care of her church and would even help clean. She enjoyed traveling with her husband and visiting and caring for her friends. 

Survivors include her husband, Rex Agnew of Burlington; step-son, Josh (Megan) Agnew of New London; two grandchildren, Ace and Asher Agnew both of New London; one brother, Don (Nan) Nelson of Broken Arrow, OK; two nieces, Dina Nelson and Danna (Doug) Townsdin.

She was preceded in death by her parents. 

Cremation has been entrusted to the care of Prugh Crematory.

The memorial service for Mrs. Agnew will be 2:00 PM Friday, July 5, 2024, at Prugh Funeral Service, 3940 Division Street.  Burial will be in Aspen Grove Cemetery. 

A memorial has been established for St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
