Shirley Ann Talbott, 94, of Burlington, died Tuesday, April 30, 2024, in New London, IA.
Born January 18, 1930, in Chicago, IL, she was the daughter of Ernest and Bertha (Firetag) Westgate. Shirley grew up in Burlington and attended Notre Dame High School. She married Lawrence Talbott on March 11, 1950 in Burlington. Shirley worked hard throughout her life, driving a school bus for 25 years. She was affectionately known as "Mrs. Whistle" by the children for the whistle she used to blow to maintain safety on the bus when the kids would begin acting up. She was spunky and had a great sense of humor and enjoyed a good laugh. She liked doing puzzles, used to crochet and knit, and enjoyed cooking. She could make a great bread pudding. Shirley enjoyed sharing encouraging bible scriptures with those she met. Shirley will be missed, but her memory lives on through all who love her.
Shirley's family include her children, Steven (Jane) Talbott and Gary Talbott; seven grandchildren and three great-grandchildren, sister, Pat Fedora; and several nieces and nephews.
Sadly, Shirley is preceded in death by her husband, Lawrence; son, Larry; and siblings, Richard Westgate and Mary Titus.
Cremation has been entrusted to the care of Prugh Funeral Services.
Shirley's family will receive guests for a memorial celebration on Saturday, May 11, 2 pm, at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses (6760 Hunt Road, Burlington).
A time of food and fellowship will follow the memorial service and will be held at the Prugh Funeral Service Community Room (3940 Division Street, Burlington).
