Shirley Joan Thompson, 87, of Burlington, died Saturday, July 6, 2024, at the Southeast Iowa Regional Hospice House in West Burlington.
Born November 13, 1936, in Colesburg, IA, she was the daughter of Chance and Bethel Ann Barclay Brown. On September 15, 1956, she married Dallam Gilbert in Colesburg. He died on April 12, 2024.
She graduated from Colesburg High in 1955. Shirley was a homemaker. She moved to Sun City West, Arizona in 1999, and later moved back to Burlington in 2018.
She enjoyed golfing and was a member of the Burlington Golf Club, Baiarwood Country Club in Sun City West, AZ, and First Presbyterian Church.
Survivors include two sons, David D. (Donna) Thompson of Scottsdale, AZ, and Michael J. (Teresa) Thompson of Galesburg, IL; four grandchildren, David C. (Jess), Taylor (Vince), Coby, and Jaclyn (Jason); and three great-grandchildren, Maxwell, Rylee, and Connor; and one brother, Michael (Karen) Brown of Cincinnati, OH.
Besides her husband of 67 years, she was preceded in death by her parents.
Cremation has been entrusted to the care of Prugh Crematory.
A private family burial will be held in Aspen Grove Cemetery.
Memorials have been established for the First Presbyterian Church and University of Iowa Stead Family Children's Hospital.
