Sue Whitford Geng , 77, of Burlington, died at 2:57 PM Tuesday, December 15, 2020, at her home surrounded by her family in Burlington after suffering a stroke.
Born September 18, 1943, in Eugene, OR, she was the daughter of Frank Miller and Minnie Marie Jessop Whitford. On June 27, 1964, she married Barry A. Geng in Omaha, NE. He died on March 25, 2017.
Sue worked at Zion National Park, Apothecary 24, Inc., Occupational Therapy Aide for the Burlington Community School District, and B. Dalton Bookseller.
She graduated from Denver East High School in 1961. She went to Colorado Woman's College, Denver, CO, and Drake University in Des Moines, IA.
Sue was a adventurer at heart and was up for anything with great enthusiasm. She went sky diving, jet skiing, and snowmobiling with the same zest as she enjoyed her world travels. Other adventures were sailing, painting, and playing bridge.She was a member of Old Fort Yacht Club, Red Hat Society, PTA, Hospice Volunteer, Questors, St. Patrick's Bridge Club, Burlington Golf Club, bowling league, and Steamboat Senior Center Bridge Club. Sue had a dramatic flair and love to perform. Most of all Sue loved her children, grandchildren and her outpouring of love that created an extended family.
Survivors include three daughters, Rebecca (Ross) Dowell of Lincoln, IL, Deborah (Gary) Brueck and Kimberly (Jon) Wittkamp both of Burlington; one son, Steve (Diana) Geng of Myrtle Beach, SC; nine grandchildren, Jillian (Sean) Bova, Blake Dowell, Jordon Brueck, Logan Brueck, Hannah Brueck, Alekzander Geng, Daniella Geng, Barrett Wittkamp, Jacqueline Wittkamp; two great-grandchidren, Ryker & Hattie Sue Bova; one sister, Marcia A. (Arnold) Cole of Hurst, TX; one brother-in-law, Jim (Sarah) Geng of Largo, FL; nieces and nephews, David Cole, John Geng, Chris Cole, Kathy Messer, and Mark Kirkpatrick, and numerous foster children.
Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents, brother, Stephen, sister, Pamela, and nephew, Arnold Cole Jr.
Cremation has been entrusted to the care of Prugh Crematory.
A Celebration of Life for Mrs. Geng will be 10:30 AM Saturday, June 26, 2021 at Regal on the Hill, 1204 Washington Street, Burlington, IA. A time of food and fellowship will follow the celebration.
A memorial has been designated for Grandma Read-A-Book program to put books into the hands of local school children.
