Roy Smith Obituary

Roy Stanley Redd Smith, 71, of Burlington, died Friday, March 15, 2024, at the Azria Health Prairie Ridge in Mediapolis.

Born December 16, 1952, in Burlington, he was the son of Donald Alvin Redd and Betty Marie Webster Smith. He met the caregiver of his life, Claudetta Lee Tucker and they spent over 50 years together. 

He was a 1971 graduate of Burlington High School. He also attended many classes over the years at Southeastern Community College.  

Roy worked for the Iowa Army Ammunition Plant until 2019.

He was a member of the Burlington Gym, Burlington Eagles Club and the Gentleman's Club. Roy enjoyed watching TV, especially sports. He had a passion for grilling and would be called on by many local churches to help them with events, since he was the grill master. 

Survivors include his significant other, Claudetta Tucker of Burlington; son, Stanley Tucker of Burlington; daughter, Twilla Kanne of Des Moines; two brothers, Donald Hunt and Leon Wilson both of Burlington; two sisters, Theresa Williams and Denise Smith both of Los Angeles, CA; and two aunts, Amelia Lewis and Betty Bilsborough both of Burlington.

He was preceded in death by his parents, both grandmothers and one uncle. 

Cremation has been entrusted to the care of Prugh Crematory.

The celebration of life for Mr. Smith will be from 2:00 pm to 6:00 PM Saturday, April 13, 2024, at Doris' Tavern 733 S. Roosevelt Ave. Burlington, IA. Food will be provided, but you are welcome to bring your favorite dish as well.
